Travel While Staying Eco-Friendly

Here are some tips to stay eco-friendly during a vacation:

  1. If you are planning to go out and travel without compromising being green, it is best to plan in advance. There is a need to decide about your travel destination and how you plan to get there. Remember that the farther you travel away from home, the more resources you will need regardless of whether you choose a land or air travel. Thus, a shorter travel is a greener one.
  2. If you are travelling with friends, it is most advisable to carpool. Using only a single car means less carbon emissions which translate to a healthier environment.
  3. Whenever possible, travel via public transportation. Travelling by train and other public modes has beneficial effects to the environment. Once you get to your destination, you may opt to walk when you have to go to short distances.
  4. If you are going for air travel, choose the most environment-friendly airline. As compared to other forms, air travel is the least green because of the large volumes of carbon emitted. Choose an airline that implements the recycling of its wastes. It is also much more advisable and eco-friendly to choose direct flights.
  5. Prepare all the stuff that you might need in the trip. If you do so, you can avoid buying on impulse while travelling. Avoid using disposable items as they can generate wastes. Use reusable items as much as possible.
  6. When looking for a hotel, choose one that promotes the environment. Eco-friendly hotels are available in most travel destinations so it would not be difficult to find one.
  7. Even when you are on vacation, remember the three R’s – Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle. You can apply this during your vacation by taking steps as simple as not using the disposable items provided by the hotel or not having the maid service change your beddings every so often.
  8. Lastly but very importantly, before leaving your home, make sure that you leave it in eco-friendly condition. That means leaving all electrical appliances turned off. Faucets must all be shut off as well and water supply must be cut off.

Travelling for a vacation can be fully enjoyed without having to forget being green. If you choose carefully what to and not to do and if you do things in moderation, you can have a vacation that is best for yourself and the environment.
