Getting the Most out of a Cruise Vacation

While many people are attracted to the idea of boarding a cruise ship and seeing multiple destinations in the Caribbean, Alaska, the Greek isles or any of the other fantastic locations you can visit through a cruise vacation, it’s the downtime between stops that turns many people off. Sure, sunning yourself is fun for a few days, but many travelers these days equate cruises with boredom. But the cruise industry is now working to change that perception by offering a wide range of themed cruises and interesting on-board entertainment that will make this all-inclusive method of travel even more valuable in many cases than buying cheap airline tickets and traveling around yourself.

More and more, cruises are featuring lectures by famous journalists and entertainers, film festivals and talks by experts on current events and other subjects. Scholarship@Sea, a new program offered by Princess Cruise Lines allows travelers to sign up for a wide range of classes while on board, from pottery to photography to web design!

Rather than focusing on an overabundance of food, drinks and repose, cruise line are now offering state of the art fitness equipment and training programs for travelers, so they can get in shape while enjoying travel to some of the sunniest and most beautiful beaches in the world. Royal Caribbean has been a pioneer in this department, as they offer cruises will all kinds of physical activities, from rock climbing to boxing and even ice skating!

Many cruise lines have also taken steps to upgrade the quality of dining offered. Instead of 24 hour buffets and identical meals, most cruise ships now offer gourmet dining, wine tasting and even cooking schools for their passengers. Most cruise lines now offer exceptional alternative dining in on board restaurants, where passengers can sample regional cuisines from all over the world and learn about all kinds of gourmet foods and wines!
