- Take photos of your bags. This will help airline personnel identify your bags easier compared to simply describing them. You should also make a list of all the items that are in the luggage and keep this with you, in case you lose your baggage.
- Place name tags inside and outside your luggage in case the one outside falls off during transit. Also, you can choose to leave your travel plans or itinerary inside your luggage in order to make it easier for the airline to know where they can find you.
- In case of lost luggage, you should report it immediately within 24 hours from your arrival. Make sure that you fill out the necessary paper work for your claim to be processed accordingly. Provide the airline with the complete addresses of the hotels you will be staying at in order for them to ship your luggage to you once they are found.
- Although airlines are insured against lost luggage claims for as much as $2,800, there are still items such as jewelry, medication and camera equipment that are not covered. It will be wise to pack these items in your carry on.
- Many airlines will reimburse you for items like toiletries and even clothes so make sure that you save the receipts for these things.
