Tipping Etiquette for First-time Travelers
Sometimes, paying attention to the smallest detail can mean the difference between having an enjoyable vacation and a confusing one. Most first-time travelers can get really confused when it comes to tipping. If you want to avoid the guess work in whom and how much to tip, here are some travel tips that you should seriously consider.

Airport
The standard amount given to a porter is $1 for each bag they carry. Of course, you will have to tip them extra if your luggage is unusually heavy. If you took a cab or was picked up by a limo service, you should tip the driver at least 10 percent of the total fare or service rate since they will be taking out your luggage as well.
Again, it is the usual practice to tip the bellman $1 for each bag. The concierge, on the other hand, should be given $5 to $10 for every extra request such as dinner reservations to fancy restaurants and tickets to sold-out performances. If you are looking to enjoy really good service throughout your vacation, then you should give more. Hotel maid deserves about $2 in tip for each day of your vacation.
Tours
For public tours, you should tip the local guide $1 for the half-day tour and $2 for the full-day tour. This amount is on a per person basis and you should remember to give more if you hired a private tour guide.
Restaurant
In the US, most restaurants would be pleased with a 15 percent tip although you could choose to give 20 percent for really superb service. On the other hand, restaurants in Asia and Europe already add the 15 percent tip on the final bill – usually entered as “service charge”. It will be up to you if you want to leave additional tip. If you will be dining in a fancy restaurant, you can get a very nice table if you tip the maitre d’ $5 to $10.
