Jet Lag Concerns for First-time Travelers

When one crosses another time zone, it is quite normal for the body to have some difficulties adjusting. Hence, the term ‘jet lag’. If this is your first time to travel to another destination that has a different time zone, you should know some helpful travel tips that will allow you to manage this easily.

For starters, you should make sure that you go to bed early several days before your flight schedule in order to get as much rest as possible. It is even recommended that you sleep on the plane so that you will arrive refreshed and rejuvenated.

During a long flight, you should try to get up once in a while to stretch and relieve yourself of backaches and other discomforts. This way, you will be able to improve blood circulation and prepare your body better for any adjustments. Since most jet lags are worsened by dehydration, you should avoid drinking alcohol and other caffeinated drinks such as coffee, tea and colas. Instead, drink plenty of water.

Once you arrive at your travel destination, it would be wise to eat lightly so that your body can prioritize adjusting to the new time zone instead of digesting what you ate. If possible, stay away from rich and exotic foods for a few days.

In order to be in sync with the local time, you should engage in light activities during the first day such as walking or swimming. Let your body fall into a smooth rhythm. Soon, you will be able to establish a more comfortable pace and finally beat jet lag.

All in all, you just need to be more receptive of your body’s needs during these adjustments. You will be surprised at how easy it would be for you to manage jet lag in your next travels.
