Travel Tips: Documents and Travel Papers

If you have been traveling for quite some time, you probably know that travel documents need to be in order to avoid inconveniences. In the United States, airport authorities have been quite strict with proper documentations especially with terrorism threats.

Documents and Travel Papers

To help you meet all the required travel documents, here are some tips:

  1. Passports – contact the Passport Agency or any state or federal courts that process passport applications. Make sure that you provide all the requirements so that your passport can be processed without any problems. Also, you should check for its expiration regularly and make sure that you apply for a renewal at least six months before it expires.
  2. Visas – some countries will require you to secure a Visa from their consulate embassy. Again, you need to determine the requirements so that you can prepare them at once. To be able to travel on your preferred schedule, you should apply for the Visa a couple of months in advance.
  3. Registration – for safety reasons, you are required to register your trip at the US Department of State. This way, the government will be able to extend its assistance immediately in cases of emergency.
  4. Vaccination Certificate – some countries will require you to present certifications of vaccinations against infectious diseases such as yellow fever and cholera. You should inquire about such requirements from your travel agent so that you can get vaccinated as soon as possible. In addition, you will have to make sure that all your other vaccinations against infections have been updated.

After making sure that all your travel documents are in order, you should make several copies of each of them in case they get lost. Leave one copy with a friend or relative at your home along with the copy of your travel itinerary and cheap airline tickets. It is also recommended that you report any theft or loss to the local police and the US Embassy at once.
