Travel Tips: Save Money While Eating Well
One of the ways that you can save money while vacationing is cutting back on food expenses. Although this is a smart travel tip, it should not prevent you from experiencing the food of another place. After all, eating should be considered as an adventure and your trip will never be complete if you have no wonderful tastes to take back with you when you go home.

Still, you must be able to find ways to enjoy a different dining experience while still managing to stick to your budget.
- Eat During Happy Hour – you will be surprised to know how inexpensive food can be at this time of the day. Most bars and restaurants offer discounts not only on their drinks but also on their hors- d’oeuvres, nuts, pizza and sandwiches.
- Avoid Hotel Breakfasts – unless it is included in your vacation. If not, you will save money and enjoy your breakfasts more at a neighborhood café or bagel shop.
- Picnic: save on tips by purchasing already prepared foods from groceries and fancy delis and eating them while on a picnic.
- Move Around: consider yourself a food critic and sample different foods offered at snack stands, markets and gourmet shops. You will probably eat more and save more than dining in a expensive restaurant.
- Eat at Counters: most restaurants, cafes and bars charge less if the customers eat or drink at the counter. Places like Paris follow this practice and you might as well take advantage of this if you can not avoid eating at a restaurant.
- Check Out Local Supermarkets: if you will be staying for some time or staying in a vacation rental, it will only be practical to grab food and food supplies from the local grocery. You could even observe what the locals purchase and try them out for yourself.
