Save Money by Knowing How to Pack Properly

With travel expenses skyrocketing, travelers should realize that finding cheap tickets is not enough if you seriously want to save money. There are more ways that you can cut back. For instance, since airlines have started charging passengers additional fees for extra luggage, it will be wise if you pack your things right.

Of course, this is easier said than done. But if you follow these packing tips from the members of the American Society of Travel Agents, you might be able to learn a thing or two.

  1. Plan – the first step is to know what to bring and whether these items can fit in your luggage. To make things simpler, you can list down the events or activities you will be participating in and alongside them, the appropriate clothes that you might possibly wear. You can always bring clothes that can be worn on several of these activities in order to save space. This means choosing clothes with colors that can be mixed and matched. The weather can be a deciding factor too and make sure you check it so you can prepare accordingly.
  2. Streamline – after carefully thinking about the clothes and accessories you will wear during your trip, the next step is to re-examine your choices. Lay your choices out and make sure that they are clean and travel-worthy. Wed out those that are not. As for accessories, you should keep in mind that simple is best. You can also ask your travel agent about hotel amenities such hair blowers, soaps and shampoos. This way, there will be no need to bring these things. For toiletries, opt for waterproof travel kits.
  3. Packing – as soon as you have sorted out all the things you will bring for your trip, the last and most important step is putting them in your luggage. Iron your clothes and fold them properly in order to avoid creases. Also, put them according to the order that you will be using them.

By packing properly, you will avoid bringing extra luggage that translates to additional fees.
