Tips on Traveling Lightly

Since airlines have started charging an additional $15 bill or even more for checking-in luggage, a lot of travelers have started complaining and had dilemma on packing for their trips. Elephant Trunk, a store that merchandises travel items, heeded to the needs of these travelers through some form of assistance to travelers in the form of weekly demonstrations on packing in their stores.

Manager of Elephant Trunk shared some advice on traveling. Since your luggage will be carried to flights and places, even exposed to the public, it would be safer to put your business address rather than your home address. Also, to protect your luggage, you may cover it with clear plastic.

Here are other travel tips from one of the demonstrations conducted by the manager himself that may come in handy for travelers in packing:

  • Maximize odd spaces. For bags with retractable handles, do not just stack you stuff on tops of these bars to avoid wasting space. You can stack clean socks in this area, even your shoes. Just make sure you line your shoes parallel to the bars in order to save space. For areas in the corners of the bag, maximize them by placing your undergarments in a rolled-up manner.
  • Shoes should always be bagged. This would ensure the safety of your other clean garments and stuff from the dirt, seen or unseen by the naked eye, which may be in your shoes.
  • When it comes to clothing, make sure you fold shirts accordingly, one on top of the other to create a level plane. A packing folder may come in handy which can hold up to 10 shirts. For jeans, fold them with back pockets face-to-face and lay in the bag making as less wrinkles as possible. However, wrinkles may be inevitable. You may pack a Wrinkle Free spray with you that will help un-wrinkle your clothes after unpacking with just a few sprays.
  • Belts may be placed lining the perimeter of the inside of your bag.
  • Toiletries in travel sizes could help save you space in your bag. Of course, it would take efficient consumption of the products to last you a week or the desired duration of your trip.

With these traveling tips, packing would surely come efficient and even affordable for vacation or business travelers.
